The Louvre

We made it to the iconic pyramid of the Louvre. The line to get in was not too long, just about a half hour.

Even before entering the museum, the intricate designs on the face of the building already inpired a sense of wonder.

The Mona Lisa

The line to see the Mona Lisa was formidable, and the guard at the front of the line gave each person around five seconds with the painting, which was just long enough for me to take this photo.

Mo'ai

The Louvre displays relics from all over the world. This Mo'ai was originally from Easter Island, and was one of 887 human figures carved by the Rapa Nui people between 1250-1500 CE.

Every gallery was filled with immaculate detail, and the giant skylights illuminated the paintings in the best light.

The Winged Victory of Samothhrace

This impressive monument captures the heroic pose of the Greek goddess of Victory Nike as a winged woman at the prow of a ship.

Place de la Concorde

This giant fountain is one of two Fontaines de la Concorde in the Place de la Concorde. The north one (shown here) commemorates navigation and commerce on the rivers, while the south one commemorates the maritime commerce and industry of France. The Luxor Obelisk stands between the two fountains, and originally stood in front of the Luxor Temple during Ramesses II's reign.

We wandered into this restaurant after 9PM - apparently it's common to eat dinner so late. This was our first time trying duck foie gras! Was definitely an unfamiliar texture but it grew on me steadily.

I got this delicious Croque-Lady with the fried egg. And of course we had wine at every meal.

Road to Arc de Triomphe

Crossing the Avenue de la Grande Armée, I stopped to take this picture of the brighly lit street leading to the Arc de Triomphe

Equestrian Statue of George Washington

As we walked to the Eiffel Tower, I was surprised by this statue of George Washington riding a horse and raising a saber! Turns out it was donated by high society American women in 1900 to commemorate the French help in the War of Independence.
